Abstrakt

The ascension of agile and lightweight software development methods has
challenged extant software design and development paradigms; this is especially notable in
the case of small-shop software development. Agile’s break with previous traditions
represents a shift in thinking in the professional practice of software development which more
closely engages and embraces change and the learning which accompanies change.
Researchers of Information Systems can benefit from inquiry into this change as the reflection
required in the use of agile methods is also that required to balance rigor and relevance in
Information Systems research. In this paper, a Reflective-Agile Learning Model and Method
(RALMM) for small-shop software development, was developed using Dialogical Action
Research in a practitioner-researcher partnership representative of that called for by
Mårtensson and Lee (2004), Lee (2007), Van de Ven (2007).
